PHILADELPHIA TRACTION
Carbarn, Kawasakis, and ABB N5
LRV
In late March 2000, RailNutterNews went to Philadelphia to capture the current traction scene. As always, when RailNutterNews goes out to take pictures, it was raining. But, fortune struck nevertheless when a friendly transit worker invited us into the carbarn out of the blue, or gray as it were.

At the 40th Street Portal, where Trolley Routes 11, 13, 34, and 36 emerge, Kawasaki Trolleys with electropoles, built in 1981, were photgraphed in a light drizzel while we chatted with a friendly transit supervisor.
At the 69th Street Terminal one may switch from the Market-Frankford subway line to the Route 100 Light Rail to Norristown. The ABB N5 interurban bullet cars were built in 1993 and operate on 3rd rail power.
