Riding the rails on an excursion through New England in Autumn is one of life's pleasures not to be missed. The famed fall foliage is all the more spledid when seen from the tracks aboard vintage rolling stock rumbling through the countryside. In 1999 the 150th year of rail service to Willimantic, Connecticut was marked with a grand all day excursion through New England. Leaving Willimatinc at the crack of dawn the train traveled through Amherst, Massachusettes to Brattleboro, Vermont and back. The vintage train was operated by the Green Mountain Rail Road and New England Central Rail Road and hosted by The Transit Alliance of Eastern, CT and the Connecticut Eastern Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society.
