| The Queens County Model
Railroad Association has an elaborate multilevel layout
depicting the Empire Valley between Allentown,
Pennsylvania and Binghamton, New York via Kingston. On various interconnected tables there are freight lines and factories, passenger lines, and elevated trolley lines, including a trolley helix that was under construction when I visited in October, 1999. |
| Located in an apartment building basement beneath massive ancient steam pipes and walls encrusted with gigantic meters and gauges, the layout includes small upstate New York towns with brick, turn of the century, buildings. Industrial scale factory complexes with billowing smoke stacks and sidings below rock cliff sides are filled with the action of freight loading. |
| The intricate detailing includes such things as a trackside diner with tiny windows through which one can see tables set with plates of bacon and eggs. |
